McDowall Affleck is providing assistance to the Future Generation JV site team during the construction stage of the Snowy 2.0 Project near Cooma NSW. McDowall Affleck was requested to provide design and third party verification of temporary works including belt storage towers and conveyors foundations, tunnel ventilator support frames, TBM temporary support, pads stability checks.

We provided third party reviews and certifications of the belt storage tower foundation, tunnel ventilators support frames and TBM temporary support and pads stability check.

The challenges we faced were providing a quick time response and gaining information from third parties whilst dealing with no site inspections during Covid-19 restrictions.

We overcome these challenges by having a dedicated engineer on the project along with having a proactive approach and good communication with the Future Generation contracting site team. We optimised the design to meet conservative design assumptions.

Having McDowall Affleck’s dedicated engineer working closely with Future Generation helped to avoid site delays. We were able to offer a provision of multiple concept options, along with a flexible design to include materials available on site and contractor’s preferred installation method.
